Ms plate

MS Plate stands for Mild Steel Plate. It is a flat-rolled steel product that is thicker than sheet steel, typically defined as 6mm (0.25 inches) or more in thickness. It is made from low-carbon steel, generally containing less than 0.25% carbon, which gives it its characteristic properties of strength, formability, and weldability.

1. Low Carbon Content (<0.25% C): This is the defining feature. It makes the steel relatively soft, ductile (easy to form), and highly weldable without becoming brittle in the heat-affected zone.
2. Excellent Formability: Can be easily bent, cut, punched, and rolled into various shapes without cracking, making it ideal for fabrication.
3. Good Weldability: The most significant advantage. It can be welded using all common methods (Arc, MIG, TIG) without requiring complex pre- or post-weld heat treatments.
4. Magnetic: Mild steel is ferromagnetic, making it useful for applications requiring magnetic properties.
5. High Tensile Strength: While not as strong as high-carbon or alloy steels, it offers substantial strength for most structural and industrial applications.
6. Lack of Corrosion Resistance: A major drawback. MS Plate is susceptible to rust (iron oxide) when exposed to moisture and oxygen. It requires a protective coating (painting, galvanizing, powder coating) for long-term outdoor or harsh environment use.
7. Relatively Low Cost: It is one of the most economical forms of steel due to its simple composition and mass production.
